Here are the Thunderbird extensions I use:

• Stacked View - adds a view with the folders and inbox on the left and preview on the right
• View Headers button - adds a button to toggle between All and Normal headers
• QuickQuote - adds right click menu items to reply to an email while highlighting some text
• Tommy!   (IBM internal only)
• Toggle Preview button - turn on/off the preview pane (good for spam)

To install them, you have to download the XPI file to your hard disk, then click Tools > Extensions then Install to install it the first time. However, any updates seem to be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install updates as they come out.
